Corpus Christi holds on for 6-4 win against Odessa

The Odessa Jackalopes tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Corpus Christi IceRays held on for a 6-4 victory.

A goal by John Roisum put Corpus Christi up 6-2 in the third period, but Odessa pulled to within two on Anthony Olguin's tally 19:04 into the third period.

Perry DArrisso had two goals and one assist to lead the IceRays. DArrisso scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Corpus Christi. Corpus Christi had gotten the advantage when the Jackalopes' Taylor Portner was sent off for cross checking. Roisum provided the assist. DArrisso's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Corpus Christi with 18:29 left in the second period. Wayland Williams picked up the assist.

The IceRays racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Corpus Christi surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The IceRays found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Corpus Christi averages 3.2 goals per game. The IceRays' offense was clicking better than usual and put 49 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.1 shots per game they average.

Corpus Christi additionally got points from Roisum, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Rudy Sulmonde as well. In addition, Corpus Christi received assists from Emil Romig, who had two and Beau Walker and Grant Hutton, who contributed one a piece.

Odessa outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Jackalopes average 1.9 goal per contest. Odessa's defensemen bolstered the Jackalopes' offensive attack, as they bombarded Ben Myers with 19 shots. The 31 shots that Odessa put on net surpassed the Jackalopes' average of 16.9 shots per game this season.

Mike Mezzano also scored for Odessa. Other players who recorded assists for Odessa were Stephen Inman, who had one, Lawrence Cornellier, who had three, and Cody Slocum and Josh Racek, who contributed two a piece.

Ben Myers made 27 saves for Corpus Christi on 31 shots. The IceRays registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Odessa took out Nick Deery after he had made 16 saves and installed Phil Heinle in goal, where he finished with 27 saves and the loss. The Jackalopes totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play.
