Minot vanquishes Austin in shootout, 2-1 (2-0 SO)Riverside Fri, Jan 04, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Austin Bruins in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Minot also got a shootout goal from Stephen Sherman.The Minotauros' Ryan Ruck was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 43 saves and let only one puck past him. Ruck managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.87 prior to the game. Minot put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Austin to score on any of its three power plays. By firing 28 shots on goal, the Minotauros exceeded the 23.8 shots they average per game this year. Minot was led by Cameron Rowat, who registered one goal. Rowat scored 13:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. Zack Holstrom assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Minot were Lucas Oliver, who had one. The Bruins' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Minot power plays. Austin was held below its usual level of production. The Bruins put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. Austin's offense rang up 44 shots on the Minotauros' net. The Bruins were led by CJ Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored 15:39 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chris Fischer picked up the assist. Minot incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Nicholas Lehr rejected 26 shots on goal for Austin. The Bruins incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
