GAME RECAP

Minot vanquishes Aberdeen in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Odde Ice Center    Thu, Jan 03, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Aberdeen Wings in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Aberdeen's shootout goal was scored by Colton Kramer. Minot also got a shootout goal from Scott Dornbrock.

The Wings were stymied by the Minotauros netminder Tyler Parks, who stopped 43 shots during the victory. The solid play of Parks will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.58.

With 32 shots on target during the contest, Minot exceeded the 24.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Minotauros were led by Zack Holstrom, who racked up one goal. Holstrom scored on the power play 18:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. A too many men penalty on Patrick Steinhauser had put Minot on the power play. Seth Blair picked up the assist. In addition, Minot received assists from Dornbrock, who had one.

Aberdeen's offense was clicking better than usual and put 44 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.0 shots per game it averages.

The Wings were led by Jake Horton, who scored the team's only goal. Horton scored 8:20 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Joseph Sullivan assisted on the tally.

The Minotauros incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jared Stearns made 30 saves for Aberdeen on 31 shots. The Wings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
