Michigan completes comeback, beats Springfield, 3-2Nelson Center Tue, Jan 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Springfield Jr. Blues could not hold down the Michigan Warriors, and Warriors erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 3-2 win. Michigan never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Warriors was down 2-0 after a goal by Springfield's Brett Skibba at 12:53 in the second period. Michigan tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Darren McCormick at 12:41 in the third period. The Warriors netted the game winner at 15:12 in the third period on a goal by McCormick. Michigan was paced by Shawn Badali, who racked up one goal. Michigan also got a goal from AJ Marcinek as well. More assists for Michigan came via Corey Schueneman, Jake Faiella, Zack Szajner, Martin Gruse, Connor Lyons, and Brad Pizzey, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Blues' offense rang up 47 shots on the Warriors' net. Springfield was helped by Ryan Atkinson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Atkinson scored on the power play 9:59 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. The Jr. Blues had gotten the advantage when Michigan's Joshua Shellman was sent off for interference. Jeff McFarland picked up the assist. Springfield additionally got points from Skibba, who also registered one goal and one assist. Trevor Gorsuch rejected 45 shots on goal for the Warriors. Michigan incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Springfield took out Ryan Kellenberger after he had made 22 saves and installed Matt Leon in goal, where he finished with two saves and the loss. The Jr. Blues incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
