Wenatchee survives Kenai River comeback, wins 4-3Town Toyota Center Mon, Dec 31, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wenatchee Wild survived a determined comeback attempt by the Kenai River Brown Bears on the way to a 4-3 win. Wenatchee made the score 4-2 on a goal by Max McHugh at 3:38 in the third period, and Kenai River got as close as 4-3 when Dylan Meier scored 7:57 into the third period. Jacob Barber had a great game for the Wild, netting two goals. Barber scored short handed at 1:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wenatchee and again while 5:33 into the first to make the score 3-1 Wenatchee. Wenatchee managed to stay out of the box for the most part, totaling five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The Wild stayed under their season average of 27.0 penalties minutes per game this season. Nicholas Kuchera also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Jono Davis, who had two and Chris Jones, Noah Nelson, Blake Roubos, Derick Kuchera, and Dylan Abood, who each chipped in one. The Brown Bears were often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and four majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. Kenai River surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Brown Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Kenai River put 24 shots on net during the contest, more than the 20.8 it averages per game. The Brown Bears' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 12 shots between them. Kenai River was helped by Brad Duwe, who had one goal. Duwe scored on the power play 2:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Brown Bears earned a power play opportunity when Abood was put in the box for tripping. Matt Seidel picked up the assist. Kenai River also got points from Matthew Meier, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Meier, who also registered one goal and one assist. Robert Nichols rejected 21 shots on goal for Wenatchee. Kenai River's Gustaf Johansson stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Brown Bears registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
