Michigan squeaks by Springfield, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Michigan Warriors escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Springfield Jr. Blues.

Michigan gained the winning advantage on a goal by Zack Szajner 16:34 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Warriors were led by Szajner, who tallied one goal.

Michigan's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Springfield power plays.

Michigan additionally got points from Martin Gruse, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jon Farkas also scored for Michigan. In addition, Michigan received assists from Colin Larkin, who had one and Corey Schueneman, who had two.

Springfield managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Blues wound up below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. With 29 shots on target during the contest, Springfield exceeded the 25.3 shots it averages per game this year.

The Jr. Blues were helped by Tom Cooney, who registered one goal. Cooney scored 11:53 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. Micah Ranum assisted on the tally. Springfield also got a goal from Ryan Atkinson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Mike Severson and Parker Johnson, who contributed one a piece.

Trevor Gorsuch rejected 27 shots on goal for the Warriors. Michigan incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Matt Leon recorded 25 saves for Springfield.
