Johnstown boosted by Truehl's play in net, beats Kalamazoo 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Chris Truehl helped the Johnstown Tomahawks defeat the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, 2-1.

Johnstown pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 25 penalty minutes.

The Tomahawks were led by Cody Gylling, who grabbed one goal. Gylling scored 19:55 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Johnstown.

Johnstown excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Tomahawks' offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.8 shots per game they average.

Jordan Watt also scored for Johnstown. Other players who recorded assists for Johnstown were Ian Spencer and Jeff Bergh, who contributed one a piece.

Kalamazoo was often in penalty trouble, totaling 15 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Jr. K-Wings had been spending in the box. Kalamazoo was held below its usual level of production. The Jr. K-Wings average 3.1 goals per game. Kalamazoo's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 11 shots on net during the game.

The Jr. K-Wings were led by Taylor Burden, who scored the team's only goal. Burden scored 15:05 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Gattelaro picked up the assist.

Truehl recorded 26 saves for Johnstown. The Tomahawks registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. Kalamazoo's Alex Okicki stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced.
