Fresno vanquishes Fairbanks in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Gateway IC    Sun, Dec 30, 2012

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fresno Monsters defeated the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Fresno got a shootout goal from Gordon Wells.

The Monsters overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fresno trailed 2-0 after a goal by Fairbanks' Jayson Angus at 16:15 in the second period. The Monsters tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mitchell Snyder at 13:22 in the third period.

Fresno put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Dogs to score on any of their five power plays. The Monsters' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 10 shots between them.

Other players who recorded assists for Fresno were Newton Fuller, Chase Sisk, Kyle Buffardi, and Matt Salituro, who contributed one a piece.

In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Zack Rall, who had one and Colton Wolter, who had two.

Tomas Sholl recorded 25 saves for Fresno. The Monsters incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kevin Aldridge made 17 saves for Fairbanks on 19 shots. The Ice Dogs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
