Topeka penalty kill dominates in 3-1 defeat of SpringfieldKansas ExpoCentre Sat, Dec 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Springfield Jr. Blues failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Topeka RoadRunners shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1. Topeka was led by Patrick Pollock, who racked up one goal. Pollock scored on the power play 18:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. The RoadRunners had gotten the advantage when Springfield's Mitch Rogge was sent off for tripping. Kyle Sharkey provided the assist. Topeka's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The 32 shots that the RoadRunners put on net surpassed Topeka's average of 26.4 shots per game this season. Topeka also got a goal from Michal Pastor as well. In addition, Topeka received assists from Ross Luedtke, Trace Strahle, Tyler Poulsen, and Sean Gaffney, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Blues average 22.2 shots on goal per game, but only sent 17 pucks on net against the RoadRunners. Springfield was led by Nate Chasteen, who scored the team's only goal. Chasteen scored on the power play 13:28 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Jr. Blues earned a power play opportunity when Pastor was put in the box for cross checking. Terry Leibo assisted on the tally. Spencer Viele rejected 16 shots on goal for Topeka. The RoadRunners incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ryan Kellenberger recorded 29 saves for Springfield. The Jr. Blues incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
