Minot squeaks by Brookings, 4-2

The game between the Minot Minotauros and the Brookings Blizzard was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Minot emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tim Donohue's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Minotauros got the win with help from a great game by Donohue, who had two goals and one assist. Donohue scored the first of his two goals at 14:12 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Minot. Jake OBorsky provided the assist. Donohue's next tally made the score 5-3 Minot with 1:41 left in the third period. Matt Audette assisted on the tally.

Minot's penalty kill excelled, as the Minotauros gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Minot was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Minotauros had been spending in the box.

Minot additionally got points from OBorsky, who also registered one goal and one assist and Jake Clifford, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Minot also got a goal from Collin Abitz as well. In addition, Minot received assists from Cameron Rowat, David Dalbec, Jake McCann, and Beau Ricketts, who contributed one a piece.

The Brookings penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and two majors for 62 minutes in penalty time. The Blizzard surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Brookings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Minot to score on any of its four power plays. The Blizzard put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.3 they average per game.

Brookings was helped by Tyler Cayemberg, who grabbed one goal. Cayemberg scored 3:10 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Minot. Brookings also got points from Thomas Williams, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Adam Cavalinni also scored for Brookings. More assists for Brookings came via Jared Docken, Justin Moody, and Connor Andrle, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Parks made 35 saves for the Minotauros on 37 shots. Drew Weigman rejected 17 shots on goal for the Blizzard.
