Fresno holds on for 4-2 win against Fairbanks

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Fresno Monsters held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Gordon Wells put Fresno up 4-0 in the second period, but Fairbanks pulled to within two on Kyle Lee's tally 13:22 into the third period.

The Monsters' penalty kill excelled, as Fresno gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Monsters stifled the Ice Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 25 shots that Fresno put on net surpassed the Monsters' average of 20.6 shots per game this season.

Fresno was helped by Matt Salituro, who tallied one goal. Salituro scored 9:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fresno. Mitchell Snyder assisted on the tally. Fresno additionally got points from Daniel Rosse, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Wells, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Newton Fuller also scored for Fresno. In addition, Fresno received assists from Kyle Buffardi and Dan Sherer, who contributed one a piece.

Fairbanks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Monsters to score on any of their six power plays. The defense for the Ice Dogs played an important role offensively, racking up 11 shots on goal. Fairbanks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Fairbanks also got a goal from Ben Campbell as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Ryan McNeely, Zack Rall, Jacob Hetz, and Lonnie Clary, who each chipped in one.

Fresno's Tomas Sholl stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Monsters incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Kevin Aldridge rejected 21 shots on goal for the Ice Dogs.
