Soo rides Nagelvoort to victory over Michigan, 2-1

Zach Nagelvoort had a standout game with 47 saves, and the Soo Eagles beat the Michigan Warriors 2-1.

Soo's penalty kill excelled, as the Eagles gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Soo was paced by Eric Rivard, who had one goal. Rivard scored on the power play 9:57 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Soo. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Brock Labelle was put in the box for cross checking. Michael Crowley picked up the assist.

Soo racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Eagles surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Soo stifled Michigan's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Soo also got points from Crowley, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Soo came via Robin Hoglund, Michael Covach, and Matt Menta, who contributed one a piece.

The Warriors forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Michigan had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Warriors forced the Eagles goalie Nagelvoort to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots.

Michigan was led by Brad Pizzey, who scored the team's only goal. Pizzey scored 2:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Michigan. Corey Schueneman provided the assist.

Soo registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Warriors' Trevor Gorsuch stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced.
