Sulmonde leads Corpus Christi over Odessa, 5-2

Rudy Sulmonde was all over the ice for the Corpus Christi IceRays, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Corpus Christi's 5-2 win over the Odessa Jackalopes.

Sulmonde's tallies came on the power play at 7:56 into the third period to make the score 2-2 and 10:23 into the third to make the score 3-2 Corpus Christi.

By firing 44 shots on goal, the IceRays exceeded the 26.2 shots they average per game this year.

Corpus Christi also got points from Perry DArrisso, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Emil Romig, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Corpus Christi came via John Roisum, who had two and Beau Walker and Andrew Paras, who each chipped in one.

The Odessa penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Jackalopes surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Odessa's offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 19.3 shots per game it averages.

The Jackalopes were helped by Lawrence Cornellier, who registered one goal. Cornellier scored on the power play 12:22 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Odessa. Odessa had taken the advantage when Corpus Christi's Trevor Heuser got sent off for abuse of officials. Matt Volonnino provided the assist. John Feemster also scored for Odessa. In addition, Odessa received assists from Matthew Montemurro, Anthony Olguin, and Zane Popilock, who contributed one a piece.

Ben Myers rejected 27 shots on goal for the IceRays. Corpus Christi totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Phil Heinle recorded 39 saves for the Jackalopes. Odessa registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
