Port Huron holds on for 4-3 win against Johnstown

The Johnstown Tomahawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Port Huron Fighting Falcons would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Port Huron made the score 3-1 on a goal by Payden Mielke at 3:14 in the third period, and Johnstown got as close as 3-2 when Jaycob McCombs scored 15:51 into the third period.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. By firing 39 shots on goal, the Fighting Falcons exceeded the 25.9 shots they average per game this year.

Port Huron was led by Alex Archibald, who had one goal and two assists. Archibald scored 18:15 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Port Huron. Ian Miller provided the assist. Port Huron also got a goal from Brett DAndrea as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Jonathan Kopacka, Bryan Yim, Vito Aluia, and Rick DeRosa, who each chipped in one.

The the Tomahawks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and three majors for 51 minutes in penalty time. Johnstown had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Tomahawks relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as McCombs, Casey Nelson and Mitch Kontny took 18 of the team's 29 shots. Johnstown's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 12 shots between them.

Jeff Bergh also scored for Johnstown. More assists for Johnstown came via Zack Wallace, JB Baker, and Cody Gylling, who contributed one a piece.

Alex Blankenburg made 26 saves for the Fighting Falcons on 29 shots. Port Huron totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 2-for-8 on the power play. Collin Brennan rejected 35 shots on goal for the Tomahawks. Johnstown registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Tomahawks, Cody Bentzel and Jake Fairchild were ejected from the contest.
