Soo squeaks by Michigan, 3-2

The Soo Eagles and the Michigan Warriors were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Soo made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

The Eagles gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jared VanWormer 10:41 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Soo was led by VanWormer, who had one goal.

The Eagles' offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.5 shots per game they average.

Soo additionally got points from Alexander Taulien, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Soo also got a goal from Pat Thompson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Dante Suffredini, who had two and Alex Robert and Eric Rivard, who contributed one a piece.

Michigan forced Soo goalie Tyler Marble to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

The Warriors were helped by Martin Gruse, who tallied one goal. Gruse scored on the power play 16:45 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Michigan had gotten the advantage when the Eagles' Matt Menta was sent off for too many men. Darren McCormick assisted on the tally. Jon Farkas also scored for Michigan. In addition, Michigan received assists from Zack Szajner, Colin Larkin, and TJ Stuntz, who each chipped in one.

Marble recorded 42 saves for Soo. The Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dillion Kelley made 37 saves for the Warriors on 40 shots. Michigan incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
