GAME RECAP

Morelli lifts Minot over Coulee Region, 4-0

Omni Center    Thu, Dec 20, 2012

Behind a great game by Mason Morelli, who had two goals, the Minot Minotauros defeated the Coulee Region Chill, 4-0.

Morelli scored at 11:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot and again while on the power play 7:50 into the second to make the score 2-0 Minot.

Ryan Ruck frustrated Coulee Region's offense all game, and stopped 30 shots en route to a shutout. Ruck managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.14 prior to the game.

The Chill's power play was ineffective against Minot's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Minotauros put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Coulee Region to score on any of its seven power plays. Minot's defense was surprisingly good. The Minotauros average 3.0 goals allowed per game. By firing 51 shots on goal, Minot exceeded the 24.2 shots it averages per game this year.

Minot also got a goal from Tim Donohue as well. In addition, Minot received assists from Jadin Martin, who had two, Stephen Sherman, who had three, and Paul Sorenson, David Dalbec, and Jake OBorsky, who each chipped in one.

The Chill did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Coulee Region puts an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. The Chill put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.2 they average per game. Coulee Region's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 14 shots between them.

The Chill were led by Derek OFlynn, who took six shots.

The Minotauros incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Blake Cates took the loss and made 37 saves before being replaced by Devin Kero who made 10 saves. Coulee Region incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
