Odessa holds on for 3-2 win against Texas

The Texas Tornado tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Odessa Jackalopes held on for a 3-2 victory.

Odessa took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Texas storm back on a Brandon Hawkins goal 6:13 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Jackalopes barely challenged the opposing goaltender, launching only 10 shots on target to force seven saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 17.7 pucks on net per game.

Odessa was helped by Josh Racek, who registered one goal. Racek scored 19:44 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Odessa. Lawrence Cornellier picked up the assist. Taylor Portner also scored for Odessa. More assists for Odessa came via John Feemster, Austin Ho, and Mike Mezzano, who each chipped in one.

The Tornado's offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 31.6 shots per game they average.

Texas was helped by Louie Rowe, who finished with one goal. Rowe scored 5:22 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Odessa. Michael Hoy provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Nick Neville, Scott Conway, and CJ Reuschlein, who contributed one a piece.

Nick Deery recorded 34 saves for the Jackalopes. Odessa incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Tornado's Jordan Kaufer stopped seven shots out of the 10 that he faced. Texas incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
