Wahlin leads Austin over Brookings, 5-2

Brandon Wahlin had two goals and one assist to lead the Austin Bruins to a 5-2 victory over the Brookings Blizzard.

Wahlin scored at 6:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Austin and again while 8:10 into the third to make the score 4-2 Austin.

Austin pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The Bruins stifled Brookings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 38 shots that Austin put on net surpassed the Bruins' average of 30.4 shots per game this season.

Austin also got points from CJ Smith, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Drew Anderson also scored for Austin. In addition, Austin received assists from Michael Bond, who had two and Josh Bretner, Jake Flynn, and Riley Colvard, who contributed one a piece.

The Blizzard were helped by Thomas Williams, who registered one goal. Williams scored 16:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brookings. Adam Cavalinni assisted on the tally. Brookings also got a goal from Evan Hesse as well. More assists for Brookings came via Justin Moody, Connor Andrle, and Eric Brenk, who each chipped in one.

Nicholas Lehr recorded 21 saves for Austin. The Bruins registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Drew Weigman made 33 saves for Brookings on 38 shots. The Blizzard incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
