Kalamazoo wins tough contest against Springfield, 3-2Nelson Center Sat, Dec 15, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Springfield Jr. Blues. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Patrick Spellacy's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Kalamazoo was paced by Spellacy, who racked up one goal and one assist. Spellacy scored 2:08 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Kalamazoo. Luc Boby picked up the assist. By firing 28 shots on goal, the Jr. K-Wings exceeded the 23.3 shots they average per game this year. Taylor Burden also scored for Kalamazoo. In addition, Kalamazoo received assists from Matt Wurst and Cole Pierce, who contributed one a piece. The 29 shots that Springfield put on net surpassed the Jr. Blues' average of 24.3 shots per game this season. Springfield was helped by Mike Fazio, who tallied one goal and one assist. Fazio scored 9:49 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kalamazoo. Brett Skibba assisted on the tally. Springfield also got points from Skibba, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Springfield came via Terry Leibo, who had one. Kalamazoo's Marcus Due-Boje stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Jr. K-Wings incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Matt Leon made 25 saves for the Jr. Blues on 28 shots. Springfield incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
