GAME RECAP

Texas downs Odessa, 4-1

CC-Arena    Fri, Dec 14, 2012

Elexie solovyev grabbed one point to lead the Texas Tornado to a 4-1 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes.

The Texas penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Tornado had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Texas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Odessa to score on any of its five power plays. With 49 shots on target during the contest, the Tornado exceeded the 31.7 shots they average per game this year.

Brandon Platt also scored for Texas. More assists for Texas came via Scott Conway, who had two and Brandon Hawkins and Hunter Leisner, who contributed one a piece.

The Jackalopes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Odessa had been spending in the box. The Jackalopes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Texas power plays. Odessa averages 18.9 shots on goal per game, but only sent 15 pucks on net against Texas.

The Jackalopes were led by Josh Racek, who scored the team's only goal. Racek scored 11:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Lawrence Cornellier assisted on the tally.

The Tornado's Leisner stopped 14 shots out of the 15 that he faced. Phil Heinle rejected 45 shots on goal for Odessa. For the Jackalopes, Tyler Minx was ejected from the game.
