Brookings downs Austin in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Larson Ice Center Red Fri, Dec 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Thomas Williams gave the Brookings Blizzard a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Austin Bruins when he scored 2:18 into the extra period. Eric Brenk was all over the ice for Brookings, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Brenk scored the first of his two goals at 19:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Brookings. Connor Andrle picked up the assist. Brenk's next tally made the score 4-1 Brookings with 18:19 left in the second period. The Blizzard had taken the advantage when Austin's Chris Fischer got sent off for hooking. Andrle provided the assist. Brookings was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Blizzard's offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.6 shots per game they average. Brookings additionally got points from Evan Hesse, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brookings also got a goal from Derek Sand as well. More assists for Brookings came via Nick DeCenzo, who had one and Drew Brevig and Matt Youso, who contributed two a piece. Brookings was unable to stop the Bruins from sending pucks towards the net, and Austin eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Bruins were helped by Riley Colvard, who finished with one goal. Colvard scored 10:50 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Brookings. Brandon Wahlin picked up the assist. Austin also got points from Drew Anderson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. John Simonson also scored for Austin. Other players who recorded assists for Austin were AJ Reid, who had two and Joey Caprio, Jake Flynn, and Cody Dixon, who each chipped in one. The Blizzard's Drew Weigman stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Brookings registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Jason Pawloski made 32 saves for Austin on 37 shots. The Bruins totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
