Johnstown wins tough contest against Fresno, 4-3Selland Arena Sat, Dec 08, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Johnstown Tomahawks gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Fresno Monsters. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jeff Bergh's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Johnstown's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Tomahawks exceeded the 28.1 shots they average per game this year. Johnstown also got points from Brandon Reinholz, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Johnstown also got a goal from Casey Nelson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Johnstown were Mitch Kontny, who had two and Andrew McDonald, Mike Sandor, Jesse Kessler, and Cody Gylling, who contributed one a piece. Johnstown was unable to stop Fresno from sending pucks towards the net, and the Monsters eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Fresno was led by Dan Sherer, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Sherer scored 4:32 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Mitchell Snyder assisted on the tally. Fresno additionally got points from Matt Salituro, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Ian Janco also scored for Fresno. In addition, Fresno received assists from Kyle Buffardi, who had one. Collin Brennan recorded 32 saves for the Tomahawks. Johnstown incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Macauley Haight made 27 saves for the Monsters on 31 shots. Fresno incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
