Minot uses shootout to best Aberdeen, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Aberdeen Wings in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Minot also got a shootout goal from David Parottino.

The Minotauros' penalty kill excelled, as Minot gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

In a losing effort, Aberdeen was sparked by Justin Parizek, who racked up two goals and one assist. Parizek scored the first of his two goals at 6:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Minot. Peter Krieger picked up the assist. Parizek's next tally made the score 3-3 with 5:31 left in the second period. Joseph Sullivan assisted on the tally.

The Minotauros were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Minot had been spending in the box. The Minotauros' offense was clicking better than usual and put 48 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.0 shots per game they average.

Minot was helped by Jake Clifford, who had one goal. Clifford scored 5:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. Wesley Iverson picked up the assist. Minot also got points from Jake OBorsky, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mason Morelli also scored for Minot. Other players who recorded assists for Minot were Zack Holstrom, Stephen Sherman, and Parottino, who each chipped in one.

The Wings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and three majors for 27 minutes in penalty time. Aberdeen had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Wings relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Krieger, Mike Parnell and Parizek took 26 of the team's 48 shots. The defense for Aberdeen played an important role offensively, racking up 20 shots on goal.

Aberdeen additionally got points from Krieger, who also tallied one goal and two assists. More assists for Aberdeen came via Jonathan Grebosky, who had one.

The Minotauros' Tyler Parks stopped 45 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Minot registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Marcus Zelzer made 44 saves for the Wings on 47 shots.
