Texas wins tough contest against Corpus Christi, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Texas Tornado escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Michael Hoy's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Louie Rowe had two goals to lead Texas to victory. Rowe scored at 8:51 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Texas and again while 15:02 into the third to make the score 5-3 Texas.

The Tornado's penalty kill excelled, as Texas gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Tornado stifled Corpus Christi's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Texas put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 30.6 it averages per game.

Brandon Hawkins also scored for Texas. In addition, Texas received assists from Alex Temby, Jackson Leef, Nick Neville, Scott Conway, Jason Eddy, Andrew Mayer, and elexie solovyev, who contributed one a piece.

The IceRays stifled the Tornado's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defense for Corpus Christi played an important role offensively, racking up 18 shots on goal. With 42 shots on target during the contest, the IceRays exceeded the 26.0 shots they average per game this year.

Corpus Christi was helped by Charles Baldwin, who registered one goal. Baldwin scored short handed 3:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Corpus Christi. The IceRays were on a disadvantage when Trevor Heuser went off the ice for tripping. John Roisum assisted on the tally. Corpus Christi additionally got points from AJ Jarosz, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Corpus Christi also got a goal from Brandon Smith as well. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Michael Economos and Andrew Paras, who each chipped in one.

Texas' Hunter Leisner stopped 39 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Tornado totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Hayden Stewart recorded 35 saves for Corpus Christi. The IceRays incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
