Austin uses shootout to best Brookings, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Austin Bruins defeated the Brookings Blizzard in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Brookings got a shootout goal from Connor Andrle. In addition to the clincher, Austin got a shootout goal from Brandon Wahlin.

The Bruins saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Austin made the score 2-0 on a goal by Chris Fischer at 12:31 in the third period. The Blizzard evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Evan Hesse at 19:58 in the third period.

The Bruins' defensemen bolstered Austin's offensive attack, as they bombarded Drew Weigman with 15 shots. By firing 34 shots on goal, the Bruins exceeded the 29.4 shots they average per game this year.

Austin was helped by Jay Dickman, who racked up one goal. Dickman scored on the power play 18:31 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Austin. The Bruins had gotten the advantage when Brookings' Thomas Williams was sent off for boarding. Wahlin provided the assist. In addition, Austin received assists from Drew Anderson, AJ Reid, and Riley Colvard, who contributed one a piece.

Brookings also got a goal from Justin Moody as well. More assists for Brookings came via Andrle, who had one and Adam Cavalinni, who had two.

Nicholas Lehr rejected 23 shots on goal for Austin. The Bruins incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Blizzard's Weigman stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Brookings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
