Janesville survives Coulee Region comeback, wins 3-2

The Coulee Region Chill tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Janesville Jets would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Janesville made the score 3-0 on a goal by Conor Lemirande at 8:02 in the second period, and Coulee Region got as close as 3-2 when Mac Jansen scored 16:35 into the third period.

The the Jets penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Janesville had been spending in the box. The Jets stifled the Chill's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Janesville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 41 shots on goal during the game, better than the 20.7 shots per game it averages.

The Jets were helped by Chase Rey, who registered one goal. Rey scored 6:06 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Janesville. Ryan Dau picked up the assist. Janesville additionally got points from Kucerovy, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Janesville came via Alec Vanko, Ryan Gotelaere, Zach Diamantoni, and Tyler Tatro, who contributed one a piece.

Coulee Region racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Chill surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Coulee Region put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Janesville to score on any of its five power plays. By firing 45 shots on goal, the Chill exceeded the 27.6 shots they average per game this year.

Coulee Region was helped by Andy Faust, who grabbed one goal. Faust scored 16:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Janesville. Hunter Anderson provided the assist. In addition, Coulee Region received assists from Eddie Matsushima, Jake Kauppila, and Zach Doerring, who each chipped in one.

Brock Kautz recorded 43 saves for the Jets. The Chill's starting goalie, Devin Kero, made 23 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Blake Cates, who stopped 15 shots. Coulee Region registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
