Johnstown rides Brennan to victory over Fresno, 6-1Selland Arena Fri, Dec 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Johnstown Tomahawks relied on the sparkling performance of Collin Brennan in net to grab a 6-1 win against the Fresno Monsters. Fresno's power play was ineffective against Johnstown's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Tomahawks were paced by JB Baker, who racked up one goal. Baker scored 6:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Johnstown. Ian Spencer assisted on the tally. Johnstown excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Tomahawks bested their season scoring average. This season, Johnstown averages 3.5 goals per contest. The defensemen of the Tomahawks were also effective in the Monsters' zone, and came away with three goals. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Johnstown exceeded the 27.0 shots it averages per game this year. Johnstown also got points from Spencer, who also had one goal and one assist, Andrew McDonald, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Jeff Bergh, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Johnstown also got a goal from Cody Bentzel as well. More assists for Johnstown came via Jordan Watt and Jesse Kessler, who each chipped in one and Connor Wright and Zack Wallace, who contributed two a piece. Fresno's offense was clicking better than usual and put 26 shots on goal during the game, better than the 19.9 shots per game it averages. The Monsters were led by Matt Salituro, who scored the team's only goal. Salituro scored 1:37 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Johnstown. Jacob McDowell picked up the assist. The Tomahawks' Brennan stopped 25 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Johnstown incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Tomas Sholl made 25 saves for Fresno on 31 shots. The Monsters incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
