Topeka survives penalties, beats Springfield, 7-2

The Topeka RoadRunners, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Springfield Jr. Blues' power play opportunities and emerged with a 7-2 victory.

Topeka was paced by Luke Veitch, who racked up one goal and one assist. Veitch scored 19:35 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Topeka. Sean Gaffney assisted on the tally.

The RoadRunners' goal total was higher than their season average. Topeka has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. With 37 shots on target during the contest, the RoadRunners exceeded the 25.8 shots they average per game this year. Topeka could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

Topeka additionally got points from Codey Hansen, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Topeka included Jerad Tafoya, who had two and Jake Kamrass, Tyler Poulsen, and Kyle Sharkey, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Peter Halash, who had two and Michal Pastor, Drew Kariofiles, and Dan Dupell, who each chipped in one.

Springfield relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Ryan Atkinson, Alex Baskakov and Brett Skibba took 19 of the team's 36 shots.

Springfield also got a goal from Parker Johnson as well. In addition, Springfield received assists from Simon Koscielski, who had one.

Spencer Viele made 34 saves for the RoadRunners on 36 shots. Topeka registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Matt Leon rejected 30 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
