Kalamazoo vanquishes Port Huron in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings defeated the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Port Huron got a shootout goal from Nick Horne. In addition to the clincher, Kalamazoo got a shootout goal from Luc Boby.

The Jr. K-Wings overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 after a goal by the Fighting Falcons' Ian Miller at 17:46 in the first period. The Jr. K-Wings tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Trevor Boyd at 1:39 in the third period.

Kalamazoo's penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. K-Wings gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Kalamazoo stifled Port Huron's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Kalamazoo also got a goal from Patrick Spellacy as well. More assists for Kalamazoo came via Brendan Vetter, Christian George, Mac McDonnell, and Robbie Payne, who each chipped in one.

The Fighting Falcons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kalamazoo power plays. Port Huron's offense was clicking better than usual and put 51 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.9 shots per game it averages.

The Fighting Falcons were helped by Horne, who tallied one goal. Horne scored 14:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Miller assisted on the tally. Port Huron also got points from Miller, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Port Huron received assists from Ryan Nick, who had one and Lucas Little, who had two.

The Jr. K-Wings' Alex Okicki stopped 49 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Kalamazoo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Max Milosek made 19 saves for Port Huron on 21 shots. The Fighting Falcons incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
