Wichita Falls falls to Topeka after surprising comeback

The Topeka RoadRunners climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Wichita Falls Wildcats, 5-3.

Topeka never led in the game until netting the game winner. The RoadRunners was down 3-0 after a goal by Wichita Falls' Rudy Junda at 13:08 in the second period. Topeka knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Tyler Poulsen at 15:05 in the third period. The RoadRunners got the game winner at 15:26 in the third period on a goal by Poulsen.

Tyler Andrew was all over the ice for Topeka, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win.

The RoadRunners excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Topeka's offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.7 shots per game it averages.

Topeka additionally got points from Poulsen, who also had one goal and one assist. Clint Garris also scored for Topeka. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Drew Kariofiles and Kyle Sharkey, who contributed one a piece and Kevin Patterson, Trace Strahle, and Sean Gaffney, who each chipped in two.

The Wildcats did not challenge the opposing goaltender, finishing with only 14 shots on net to force 11 saves. Team.mascot's final shot tally was well below the team's average of 27.6 pucks on net per game.

Wichita Falls was led by Kyle Bauman, who registered one goal and one assist. Bauman scored short handed 10:12 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Wichita Falls. The Wildcats found themselves down a man on Erik Ouellette's cross checking. Colin Staub provided the assist. Wichita Falls also got a goal from Eliot Grauer as well.

The RoadRunners took out Spencer Viele after he had made four saves and installed Mackenzie Sawyer in goal, where he finished with seven saves and the win. Topeka incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cooper Cook recorded 35 saves for Wichita Falls. The Wildcats incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
