Kautz leads Janesville to shutout victory over Kalamazoo

Brock Kautz recorded a shutout against the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings as the Janesville Jets picked up a 5-0 win.

Ryan Dau had two goals and one assist to lead Janesville. Dau scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Janesville. The Jets had gotten the advantage when Kalamazoo's Trevor Boyd was sent off for cross checking. Zach Diamantoni provided the assist. Dau's next tally on the power play made the score 5-0 Janesville with 2:05 left in the third period. Janesville earned a power play opportunity when Robbie Payne was put in the box for cross checking. Diamantoni assisted on the tally.

The the Jets penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Janesville had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Jets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Kalamazoo power plays. Janesville featured an improved defense during the game. The Jets allow 3.0 goals per game. Janesville bested its season scoring average. The Jets have scored at the pace of 2.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Janesville put 36 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.3 it averages per game.

Janesville also got a goal from Donovan Gardnier as well. In addition, Janesville received assists from Alec Vanko, who had three and Jordan Himley and Chase Rey, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. K-Wings' offense operated below they season average. Kalamazoo averages 3.2 goals per game.

The Jr. K-Wings were led by Luc Boby, who took four shots.

Brock Kautz made 28 saves for the Jets on 28 shots. Janesville registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Marcus Due-Boje recorded 31 saves for Kalamazoo. The Jr. K-Wings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
