Coulee Region wins tough contest against Brookings, 5-3

The Coulee Region Chill and the Brookings Blizzard were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Coulee Region made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

The Chill gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mac Jansen 15:05 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Eddie Matsushima was all over the ice for Coulee Region, as he tallied two goals in the win. Matsushima scored at 17:34 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Brookings and again while 19:20 into the third to make the score 5-3 Coulee Region.

The Chill pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes.

Coulee Region found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Chill average 2.8 goals per game. By firing 31 shots on goal, Coulee Region exceeded the 25.3 shots it averages per game this year.

Coulee Region additionally got points from Jake Kauppila, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Coulee Region also got a goal from Jesse Tredinnick as well. Other players who recorded assists for Coulee Region were Derek OFlynn, who had two and Derek Smith, Travis Underwood, Andy Faust, Hunter Anderson, and Cam Bleck, who each chipped in one.

Brookings' offense rang up 41 shots on the Chill's net.

The Blizzard were helped by Tyler Cayemberg, who grabbed one goal. Cayemberg scored 14:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. Justin Moody provided the assist. Drew Brevig also scored for Brookings. More assists for Brookings came via Jared Docken, Evan Hesse, and Thomas Williams, who contributed one a piece.

Blake Cates recorded 38 saves for Coulee Region. The Chill registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Brookings' Drew Weigman stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Blizzard incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
