Wenatchee survives penalties, beats Fresno, 6-1

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Wenatchee Wild were able to defeat the Fresno Monsters, 6-1.

Wenatchee was led by Nicholas Kuchera, who racked up one goal and one assist. Kuchera scored 16:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wenatchee. David Powlowski provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:16 into the second period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with five game misconducts.

The the Wild penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and five majors for 99 minutes in penalty time. Wenatchee had been averaging 30.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Wild found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wenatchee averages 3.8 goals per game. The Wild's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Wenatchee's offense was clicking better than usual and put 43 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.4 shots per game it averages.

Wenatchee additionally got points from Powlowski, who also registered one goal and one assist, Chris Kerr, who also had one goal and one assist, Blake Roubos, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Lance Carney, who also had one goal and one assist. Wenatchee also got a goal from Blake Butzow as well. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Jacob Barber, who had two and Dillon Eichstadt, Joshua Hartley, Jono Davis, Max McHugh, and Brian Williams, who contributed one a piece.

Fresno was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and seven majors for 117 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Monsters had been spending in the box.

Fresno was led by Mitchell Snyder, who took three shots.

Jordyn Kaufer made nine saves before being replaced by Robert Nichols, who took the win and made 12 saves. The Wild registered three goals on six power play opportunities. For Wenatchee, Chris Jones, Hartley, Evan Schmidbauer, and Trace Redmond were ejected from the contest. The Monsters' starting goalie, Macauley Haight, made 30 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Tomas Sholl, who stopped seven shots. Fresno registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Gunner White, Chase Sisk, Andrew Herlofsky, and Snyder were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
