Topeka boosted by Sawyer's play in net, beats Texas 2-1

The Topeka RoadRunners relied on the sparkling performance of Mackenzie Sawyer in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Texas Tornado.

Topeka's penalty kill excelled, as the RoadRunners gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Topeka was led by Kyle Sharkey, who finished with one goal. Sharkey scored 17:13 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Topeka. Tyler Andrew picked up the assist.

The RoadRunners stifled Texas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Topeka was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 22 penalty minutes.

Topeka also got points from Andrew, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Topeka came via Michal Pastor and Sean Gaffney, who contributed one a piece.

The Tornado stifled the RoadRunners' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Texas was held below its usual level of production. The Tornado put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game.

Texas was led by Michael Hoy, who scored the team's only goal. Hoy scored 6:07 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Texas. Jackson Leef assisted on the tally.

Sawyer recorded 28 saves for Topeka. The RoadRunners registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. The Tornado's Hunter Leisner stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Texas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
