Janesville uses shootout to best Michigan, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Dort Event Center 1    Fri, Nov 23, 2012

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Janesville Jets defeated the Michigan Warriors in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams.

Janesville saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Jets made the score 3-1 on a goal by Mike Sullivan at 1:32 in the third period. Michigan evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Zack Szajner at 19:40 in the third period.

By firing 34 shots on goal, Janesville exceeded the 18.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Jets were helped by Nick Alberlo, who had one goal. Alberlo scored 5:06 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Janesville. Jack Billings assisted on the tally. Kucerovy also scored for Janesville. More assists for Janesville came via Alec Vanko, Jordan Himley, Jason Ford, and David Longaker, who each chipped in one.

The Warriors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Janesville to score on any of its three power plays. Michigan put 40 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.9 it averages per game.

Michigan also got a goal from Jake Faiella as well. In addition, Michigan received assists from Brock Labelle, who had two and Mitchell Wedding, Levi Erkkila, Martin Gruse, and Shawn Badali, who contributed one a piece.
