Minot vanquishes Bismarck in shootout, 5-4 (3-2 SO)VFW Sports Center Thu, Nov 22, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Bismarck Bobcats in a shootout 5-4 (3-2 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Bismarck's shootout goals were scored by Daniel Kovar and Shane Omdahl. In addition to the clincher, Minot got shootout goals from Stephen Sherman and Matt Audette.The Minotauros came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Minot fell behind 3-1 after a goal by the Bobcats' Adam Knochenmus at 1:21 in the second period. The Minotauros knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Joe Giordano at 15:11 in the third period. Jake OBorsky was all over the ice for Minot, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. OBorsky scored on the power play 6:30 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Bismarck. The Minotauros had gained a power play chance when Filip Starzynski was whistled for roughing. Denis Dalidovich picked up the assist. Minot put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bismarck to score on any of its five power plays. The Minotauros put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.4 they average per game. Minot surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Minotauros average 2.9 goals per contest. Cameron Rowat also scored for Minot. In addition, Minot received assists from Jadin Martin and Lucas Oliver, who contributed one a piece. The Bobcats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.7 shots per game they average. Bismarck was helped by Cory Chapman, who tallied one goal. Chapman scored 15:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Klein provided the assist. Bismarck additionally got points from Giordano, who also registered one goal and one assist and Matt Anders, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Bismarck were Evan Giesler, Johno May, and Patrick Moore, who each chipped in one. Tyler Parks made 31 saves for Minot on 35 shots. The Minotauros totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Bryan Nies made 13 saves before being replaced by Aaron Nelson, who took the otl and made 12 saves. The Bobcats ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
