GAME RECAP

Austin rips Aberdeen, 5-1

Odde Ice Center    Thu, Nov 22, 2012

The Aberdeen Wings had trouble finding ways to stop the Austin Bruins, which beat Wings, 5-1.

Austin's Nicholas Lehr was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Lehr will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.71.

The Bruins were sparked by Drew Anderson, who registered one goal. Anderson scored 10:43 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Austin. Brandon Wahlin picked up the assist.

Austin's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Aberdeen power plays. With 38 shots on target during the contest, the Bruins exceeded the 27.9 shots they average per game this year.

Austin also had goals scored by Chris Fischer, who had two and Nolan Kirley and John Simonson, who each put in one. More assists for Austin came via Jake Flynn and AJ Reid, who contributed one a piece.

Aberdeen's penalty kill unit could not stop Austin's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. The Wings forced the Bruins goalie Lehr to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Aberdeen was led by Mike Parnell, who scored the team's only goal. Parnell scored 13:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Austin. Tommy Miller provided the assist.

Austin ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Wings' starting goalie, Paige Skoog, made 23 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Marcus Zelzer, who stopped 10 shots. Aberdeen ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
