Austin rips Brookings, 4-1

The Austin Bruins had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Brookings Blizzard.

Brookings was stymied by Austin netminder Nicholas Lehr, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. The solid play of Lehr will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.82.

The Bruins were led by Brandon Wahlin, who had one goal. Wahlin scored 7:46 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Austin. John Simonson provided the assist.

By firing 37 shots on goal, Austin exceeded the 25.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Austin also got points from Jay Dickman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin also got a goal from AJ Reid as well. In addition, Austin received assists from Joey Caprio, Nate Mondry, and Riley Colvard, who contributed one a piece.

The Blizzard's offense operated below they season average. Brookings averages 3.1 goals per game. The Blizzard forced the Bruins goalie Lehr to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Brookings was led by Eric Brenk, who scored the team's only goal. Brenk scored on the power play 17:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Austin. The Blizzard had gained a power play chance when Drew Anderson was whistled for high sticking. Evan Hesse assisted on the tally.

Austin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Drew Weigman rejected 33 shots on goal for Brookings. The Blizzard incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
