Amarillo pulls away in second, rolls over Texas, 7-2CC-Arena Fri, Nov 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Texas Tornado allowed the Amarillo Bulls to net three goals during the second period and fell, 7-2. Amarillo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes. The Bulls were led by Carter Penzien, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Penzien scored 17:33 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Amarillo. Tyler Deresky picked up the assist. Amarillo bested its season scoring average. The Bulls average 4.6 goals per game. Amarillo was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. The 34 shots that the Bulls put on net surpassed Amarillo's average of 28.9 shots per game this season. Amarillo also got points from Geoff Fortman, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Deresky, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Amarillo also got a goal from Ryan Cole as well. More assists for Amarillo came via John Rey, Brady Ferguson, Omar Mullan, and TJ Sherman, who each chipped in one and Connor Frey, TJ Sarcona, and Mike Davis, who contributed two a piece. Texas was below its usual level of shot production, taking 16 shots compared to the 29.3 the Tornado average. Texas could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. The Tornado were helped by Justin Greenberg, who registered one goal. Greenberg scored on the power play 5:08 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Texas had taken the advantage when the Bulls' Fortman got sent off for roughing. Scott Conway provided the assist. Jackson Leef also scored for Texas. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Andrew Mayer and CJ Reuschlein, who each chipped in one. Paul Berrafato recorded 14 saves for Amarillo. The Bulls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gage Christianson was ejected from the game. The Tornado's starting goalie, Hunter Leisner, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jordan Kaufer, who stopped 14 shots. Texas registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
