Springfield vanquishes Topeka in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Springfield Jr. Blues defeated the Topeka RoadRunners in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Topeka got a shootout goal from James Ring. Springfield also got a shootout goal from Brett Skibba.

The Jr. Blues' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Topeka power plays. The RoadRunners were unable to stop Springfield from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Blues eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Springfield was helped by Oliver Takacsi-Nagy, who tallied one goal. Takacsi-Nagy scored 5:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. Mike Severson provided the assist. Springfield also got a goal from Trevor Stone as well. More assists for Springfield came via Dylan Rosen, Nick Anderson, and Parker Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Topeka excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. With 44 shots on target during the contest, the RoadRunners exceeded the 24.2 shots they average per game this year.

Topeka was helped by Codey Hansen, who racked up one goal. Hansen scored 16:03 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Ring assisted on the tally. Michal Pastor also scored for Topeka. In addition, Topeka received assists from Tyler Poulsen, Mick Bruce, and Peter Halash, who contributed one a piece.

Matt Leon rejected 42 shots on goal for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The RoadRunners' Spencer Viele stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Topeka incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
