GAME RECAP

Wichita Falls holds on for 4-2 win against Odessa

Ector County Coliseum    Sat, Nov 10, 2012

The Odessa Jackalopes tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Wichita Falls Wildcats would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Eliot Grauer put Wichita Falls up 4-1 in the third period, but Odessa pulled to within two on Tyler Minx's tally 19:48 into the third period.

Grauer was all over the ice for the Wildcats, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Grauer scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:23 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Wichita Falls. Wichita Falls had gotten the advantage when the Jackalopes' Ryan Doucet was sent off for roughing. Erik Ouellette picked up the assist. Grauer's next tally on the power play made the score Wichita Falls with 1:04 left in the third period.

The Wildcats forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Wichita Falls had been spending in the box. The Wildcats stifled Odessa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wichita Falls relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Grauer, Kyle Bauman and Rudy Junda took 14 of the team's 23 shots.

Wichita Falls also got a goal from O'Neal L as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita Falls were Spencer Roth and Tyler Ledford, who contributed one a piece.

The 29 shots that the Jackalopes put on net surpassed Odessa's average of 18.5 shots per game this season. The Jackalopes struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 19 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Josh Racek also scored for Odessa. In addition, Odessa received assists from Cody Slocum and Lawrence Cornellier, who each chipped in one.

The Wildcats' Evan Cowley stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Blake Wojtala recorded 19 saves for Odessa. The Jackalopes registered zero goals on six power play opportunities.
