Sharkey nets hat trick, leads Topeka to 5-2 win over Amarillo

Kyle Sharkey netted a hat trick to lead the Topeka RoadRunners over the Amarillo Bulls, 5-2.

Sharkey got on the scoresheet 8:08 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:57 into the second and at 14:31 into the third.

Amarillo fell victim to a deadly Topeka power play, which ripped the Bulls for four goals.

Topeka additionally got points from Tyler Andrew, who also registered one goal and two assists. Trace Strahle also scored for Topeka. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Tyler Poulsen, who had one and Sean Gaffney, who had five.

Amarillo was held below its usual level of production. The Bulls put an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. Amarillo gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Bulls give up 2.2 goals per game.

Amarillo was helped by Brandon Flood, who tallied one goal. Flood scored on the power play 6:33 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Topeka. The Bulls earned a power play opportunity when Jake Kamrass was put in the box for too many men. Gage Christianson picked up the assist. Amarillo also got a goal from Tyler Deresky as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from John Rey, who had one.

Mackenzie Sawyer made 23 saves for the RoadRunners on 25 shots. Topeka incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Amarillo's starting goalie, Paul Berrafato, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Collin Delia, who stopped 10 shots. The Bulls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
