Texas beats Odessa 4-3 after comeback scare

The Texas Tornado survived a determined comeback attempt by the Odessa Jackalopes on the way to a 4-3 win.

Texas made the score 4-2 on a goal by Scott Conway at 11:23 in the third period, and Odessa got as close as 4-3 when Josh Racek scored 12:57 into the third period.

Conway had a great game for the Tornado, netting two goals.

Texas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jackalopes to score on any of their four power plays. By firing 46 shots on goal, the Tornado exceeded the 29.3 shots they average per game this year.

Justin Greenberg also scored for Texas. More assists for Texas came via Brandon Hawkins, who had two and Jackson Leef, Nick Neville, Anthony Mousseau, Jason Eddy, Louie Rowe, and CJ Reuschlein, who contributed one a piece.

Odessa kept Texas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hunter Leisner made 29 saves on 32 shots.

The Jackalopes were led by Matt Volonnino, who registered one goal and one assist. Volonnino scored 2:06 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Texas. Mason Wyman provided the assist. Odessa also got a goal from Anthony Olguin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Odessa were Ryan Doucet, who had one.

The Tornado incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Blake Wojtala recorded 42 saves for Odessa. The Jackalopes incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
