Johnstown falls to Springfield in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Springfield Jr. Blues' Ryan Atkinson scored 3:16 into overtime to beat the Johnstown Tomahawks, 4-3 (OT).

Springfield nearly gave up a two-score lead. The Jr. Blues made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Mitch Rogge at 12:39 in the second period. Johnstown pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by Jordan Watt at 10:25 in the third period.

Springfield additionally got points from Rogge, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were James McGing, who had two and Nick Anderson, Parker Johnson, Tom Cooney, Jon Carkeek, and Alex Baskakov, who contributed one a piece.

The Tomahawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Johnstown exceeded the 25.8 shots it averages per game this year.

The Tomahawks were helped by Jeff Bergh, who tallied one goal. Bergh scored 11:29 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Joe Bender assisted on the tally. Johnstown also got points from Casey Nelson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Johnstown came via Mitch Kontny, who had two and Mike Sandor and Brandon Reinholz, who each chipped in one.

Matt Leon made 28 saves for Springfield on 31 shots. The Jr. Blues incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Chris Truehl recorded 22 saves for Johnstown. The Tomahawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
