Amarillo erases deficit to stun Topeka, 4-3Amarillo Sat, Nov 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Topeka RoadRunners could not hold down the Amarillo Bulls, and Bulls erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win. Amarillo never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Bulls fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Topeka's Tyler Andrew at 14:36 in the second period. Amarillo knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Geoff Fortman at 18:01 in the third period. The Bulls scored the game winner at 19:52 in the third period on a goal by Fortman. Amarillo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes. The Bulls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. Amarillo kept the RoadRunners' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mackenzie Sawyer made 30 saves on 34 shots. The defensemen of the Bulls were also effective in Topeka's zone, and came away with three goals. Amarillo was led by Gage Christianson, who finished with one goal and one assist. Amarillo additionally got points from Fortman, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Connor Frey also scored for Amarillo. Other players who recorded assists for Amarillo were John Rey, who had one and Omar Mullan and Hampus Gustafsson, who contributed two a piece. The RoadRunners were below their usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 25.1 Topeka averages. Topeka also got a goal from Drew Kariofiles as well. In addition, Topeka received assists from Kyle Sharkey, who had two and Brandon Bistodeau, Sean Gaffney, and Tyler Groat, who each chipped in one. Paul Berrafato recorded 16 saves for the Bulls. Amarillo registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The RoadRunners incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
