Kalamazoo vanquishes Port Huron in shootout, 4-3 (3-0 SO)The Arena Sat, Nov 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings defeated the Port Huron Fighting Falcons in a shootout 4-3 (3-0 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Kalamazoo also got shootout goals from Luc Boby and Robbie Payne.The Jr. K-Wings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Huron to score on any of its three power plays. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Kalamazoo exceeded the 27.0 shots it averages per game this year. The Jr. K-Wings were helped by Boby, who had one goal. Boby scored 13:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo also got points from Taylor Burden, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Josh Dangel also scored for Kalamazoo. Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Trevor Boyd and Brett Beauvais, who each chipped in one. The Fighting Falcons racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Port Huron surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Fighting Falcons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. By firing 31 shots on goal, Port Huron exceeded the 27.2 shots it averages per game this year. The Fighting Falcons were helped by Zach Badalamenti, who tallied one goal. Badalamenti scored 13:22 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kalamazoo. Jonathan Kopacka assisted on the tally. Port Huron also got a goal from Bryan Yim as well. More assists for Port Huron came via Rick DeRosa, who had one and Easton Powers, who had two. Kalamazoo's Marcus Due-Boje stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Jr. K-Wings ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Alex Blankenburg rejected 28 shots on goal for Port Huron.
