Wichita Falls holds on for 6-5 win against Fairbanks

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Wichita Falls Wildcats would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-5.

Wichita Falls made the score 6-2 on a goal by Charles Hemstrom at 4:09 in the third period, and Fairbanks got as close as 6-5 when Jayson Angus scored 17:53 into the third period.

Salminen Sami was all over the ice for the Wildcats, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Sami scored the first of his two goals at 1:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita Falls. O'Neal L provided the assist. Sami's next tally made the score 5-2 Wichita Falls with 16:06 left in the third period. Chris Knudson assisted on the tally.

With 29 shots on target during the contest, Wichita Falls exceeded the 25.6 shots it averages per game this year. The Wildcats outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Wichita Falls averages 2.6 goals per contest.

Wichita Falls also got points from Kyle Bauman, who also registered one goal and one assist. Rudy Junda also scored for Wichita Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita Falls were Colin Staub, Will Vosejpka, Corey Schafer, and Tyler Ledford, who each chipped in one.

The 41 shots that the Ice Dogs put on net surpassed Fairbanks' average of 27.4 shots per game this season.

The Ice Dogs were led by Devin Loe, who grabbed three goals. Fairbanks additionally got points from Angus, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Fairbanks also got a goal from Kyle Lee as well. More assists for Fairbanks came via Zack Rall, who had two and Doug Rose, Duggie Lagrone, Logan Wendling, Garret Clemment, Colton Wolter, Chandler Madry, and Jacob Hetz, who contributed one a piece.

Cooper Cook rejected 36 shots on goal for the Wildcats. Wichita Falls totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Fairbanks' Steve Perry stopped 23 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Ice Dogs totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
