Brookings boosted by Weigman's play in net, beats Aberdeen 5-1Odde Ice Center Fri, Nov 02, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Drew Weigman had a standout game with 42 saves, and the Brookings Blizzard beat the Aberdeen Wings 5-1. Brookings pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes. The Blizzard were sparked by Justin Moody, who registered one goal. Moody scored on the power play 2:45 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Brookings. Brookings had gained a power play chance when Peter Krieger was whistled for holding. Evan Hesse assisted on the tally. The Blizzard put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Aberdeen to score on any of its six power plays. Brookings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 47 shots on goal during the game, better than the 25.0 shots per game it averages. Others who scored for Brookings included Eric Brenk, who had one and Thomas Williams, who had three. More assists for Brookings came via Jordan Stejskal, who had two, Cody Marooney, who had three, and Drew Brevig, Nick DeCenzo, and Vsevold Kramerev, who each chipped in one. The Wings put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.1 they average per game. Aberdeen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game. The Blizzard registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Marcus Zelzer took the loss and made 23 saves before being replaced by Skoog Paige who made 19 saves.
