Aberdeen beats Brookings 3-2 after comeback scareOdde Ice Center Thu, Nov 01, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brookings Blizzard tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Aberdeen Wings held on for a 3-2 victory. Aberdeen made the score 3-1 on a goal by Justin Parizek at 3:51 in the second period, and Brookings got as close as 3-2 when Justin Moody scored 17:52 into the third period. The Wings were paced by Parizek, who racked up one goal. Aberdeen stifled the Blizzard's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Wings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.2 shots per game they average. Jordan Heller also scored for Aberdeen. More assists for Aberdeen came via Patrick Steinhauser, Tommy Miller, Heinz Koster, Joseph Sullivan, and Kyle Kruenegel, who contributed one a piece. Brookings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Aberdeen to score on any of its 10 power plays. The Blizzard were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes. Brookings was helped by Craig Lindegard, who grabbed one goal. Lindegard scored 10:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jordan Stejskal picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Jeff Flicker and Evan Hesse, who each chipped in one. Marcus Zelzer rejected 26 shots on goal for the Wings. Aberdeen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Blizzard's Erick Majerle stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Brookings registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
