Austin outlasts Aberdeen, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Austin Bruins escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Aberdeen Wings.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Josh Bretner at 19:58 of the second period.

Austin was led by Bretner, who racked up one goal and one assist.

The Bruins managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Austin wound up below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. With 30 shots on target during the contest, the Bruins exceeded the 25.6 shots they average per game this year. Austin was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. The Bruins' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Austin additionally got points from Brandon Wahlin, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin also got a goal from Austin Nelson as well. In addition, Austin received assists from Jay Dickman, who had two and Michael Bond, Chris Fischer, CJ Smith, AJ Reid, and Easton Viitala, who contributed one a piece.

The 26 shots that Aberdeen put on net surpassed the Wings' average of 22.6 shots per game this season.

Aberdeen was led by Zach Kraft, who registered one goal and one assist. Kraft scored 15:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Michael Prochno provided the assist. Justin Parizek also scored for Aberdeen. More assists for Aberdeen came via Jake Horton, Heinz Koster, and Peter Krieger, who each chipped in one.

Austin's Jason Pawloski stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Marcus Zelzer rejected 25 shots on goal for the Wings. Aberdeen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
